Immediate construction will aim to reduce overcrowding

The NIHAP includes actions to build housing in all regions immediately. NCC will coordinate construction with the Regional Development Corporations. Construction will focus on:

There are three types of construction activities in the NIHAP:

Project identification, planning and design

Projects reflect community capacity priorities and values, and maximize efficiencies.

Construction

Design, logistics planning and building of new housing.

3

Operations and Maintenance

Housing has the maintenance and program support it needs.

Immediate Construction Goals

(0-5 years)

Build a housing project in each community within the first 5 years.
Have agreements for the construction and operation of a shelter in each community within the first 5 years.

Longer Term Investment Goals

(0-25 years)

Increase the supply of affordable housing.
Increase housing maintenance knowledge and skills among Inuit across Nunavut.
